Guided tour extension tool for an online multi-user environment

Guided tour extension tool for an online multi-user environment based on babylon.js

Together with the design studio The Rodina, ZKM | Hertz Lab is implementing a novel interactive software with which to offer guided tours inside the online exhibition Spatial Affairs. Worlding – A tér világlása.

This innovative approach to online art mediation requires no external platform and enables visitors to enter the space as avatars and see each other in it. Each attendee is able to interact with other participants by using the chat function already embedded space. The tour guide can also interact with the visitors by broadcasting sounds that are audible to others in the online environment. Distinguished by a “guide avatar”, art mediators can point out  different artworks in the exhibition and show videos on the built-in stage.

The aim of this guided tour extension tool is to develop a novel way of hosting guided tours in digital environments and to provide new modes of interaction within online exhibition spaces for online audiences.

The new software will be used during the first online workshop organized inside Spatial Affairs. Worlding – A tér világlása on May 15, 2022.
